The National Wrestling Alliance's original Thanksgiving Pay-Per-View had been a staple in the industry for over a decade prior to World Championship Wrestling taking over the rights and holding the event yearly until December of 2000.
On March 21 2001 WWE (then WWF) bought WCW and all it's trademarks including it's branded names - WWE renamed Clash of the Champions - Clash of Champions and used Great American Bash for a few years but the company never did fully utilize all it's trademarks it purchased.
This appears to be changing, there are reports that the company is mulling over the decision to start using more names from the former rival company and now we have confirmation from the company itself that it's next November pay per view will indeed be called WWE Starrcade - and to top it off the company is giving a nod to the events origins and hosting the event in Greensboro NC - the original home to the event.
Other names up for consideration are World War 3, Fall Brawl, Halloween Havoc, Bash At The Beach, Souled Out, Mayhem and others.
Here is hoping that WWE NEVER use that Great Balls of Fire name again - horrible!
